5 Things All Successful Entrepreneurs Should Have In Their Offices

A smart and exceptionally designed office environment can easily influence your approach towards your work.

Most people will say a messy environment is distracting and uninspiring, whereas a personalised and organised desk is more conducive for work.

You can choose how to surround yourself with items that can easily increase your focus and productivity, whether you work in a normal office, serviced office, or home office.

Here is a collection of items all emerging entrepreneurs should include in their office to help achieve their ambitions.

1. Prioritise Your Day Using A Checklist

It is incredibly easy to feel overwhelmed with the never-ending list of responsibilities our jobs demand from us. Keeping a schedule of daily responsibilities helps keep you in line with your duties while fighting the urge to procrastinate.

Envisioning what is required from your day helps allocate the required time to meet your deadlines and marking off completed tasks also gives a sense of accomplishment, which can further propel you to keep completing tasks.

2. Visualise Your Ideas On A Whiteboard

A simple whiteboard is a very versatile productivity tool that easily encourages collaboration and creativity.

Having the ability to openly share thoughts and ideas via a whiteboard enables an increase in engagement, as information is presented in a visual format.

This different method of presenting information cannot only be applied in group meetings but can also serve as another format to display a scheduled timeline to keep everyone accountable.

3. Personalise Your Space With Items From Home

Personalise your office space by adding small mementos from home to serve as a reminder for your purpose for working.

Items such as a picture, your coffee mug, or even a vibrant plant are excellent examples of objects that help create a sense of familiarity within your work environment.

Introducing items on your desk creates a sense of ownership towards your desk, creating a comfortable environment for you to function at your best.

4. Escape With A Good Book

To keep your focus and productivity maintained throughout the day, experts have suggested that you should be taking regular breaks from your busy schedule. As a means of entertainment, we recommend surrounding yourself with books to take your mind away from your workload.

Books serve as a measure to keep your mind stimulated so you can easily jump back into work when your break time is up. The late Steve Jobs famously populated his entire office with books as a source of inspiration and creativity.

5. The Trusted Pen And Notepad Will Never Go Out Of Fashion

You can never go wrong with a trusted pen and paper. Studies have proven that despite being in the age where we can easily type down notes on our mobile devices, physically writing our thoughts and ideas is a much more effective method. Never will you forget another important phone number or vital client detail when you have your dependable pen and notepad within reach.

While these everyday office items may seem obvious to have within an office space, collectively they provide a tremendous amount of value to any entrepreneur wanting to achieve the next level of success.

This holiday season, think about gifting any one of these office items to your entrepreneurial family member, friend, or colleague!

The Problem With Positive Thinking And What To Do Instead

How often have you had a bad day and been told to think positively?

Often this piece of unwelcome advice only leads to more anxiety when these ‘positive thoughts’ aren’t deeply believed, confirmed, or backed up by your own experience.

Why? Because positive thinking operates at the surface level of conscious thinking and does nothing to contend with the subconscious mind where limiting beliefs actually live.

So what can we do instead?

1. SAY THIS:

We’ve been honored to host Chris Helder and personally live by his creed of Useful Belief in place of vague positivity.

Watch the video below for examples of what you can say instead:

2. Focus on progress not perfection

This simple mindset shift is proven to improve mood, encourage learning, and fosters independence and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Making and admitting to mistakes is a necessary part of learning, of growing, and of being human.

3. Take responsibility and be accountable for your actions

Instead of using the emotional band-aid of positive thinking look at the deeper root of your frustration and action steps to properly heal.

Think about it this way, if you’re responsible for your negative feelings, you also hold the solution to resolving them.

Do you have any other questions or thoughts about what you can do in place of positive thinking? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen!

3 Ways Victory Offices Can Support You During A Crisis And Beyond

As our world navigates the difficult and uncharted waters of Covid-19 we want to discuss how Victory Offices can help support you and your business during this and any crisis.

Of course, it goes without saying, that Victory Offices have:

  • Increased sanitization across all locations
  • Offer flexible packages and your first two weeks free on any service
  • We have postponed all in person events and replaced them with weekly virtual events.
  • We have reduced staffing whilst ensuring job security for our amazing Victory family, and continue to monitor this pandemic as it evolves.

But we’re also looking beyond, we are not only here to ensure your business survives but is ready to thrive.

Whilst we can’t tell you what the future holds, we can help you future proof your business.

1. Where do we begin?

Grab a notepad and pen and watch the below video for The CHOICES Map; a series of questions that will help you navigate massive change and gain clarity in your life and business.

The CHOICES Map is a series of questions developed by authors and executive coaches Gail McDonald and Marilyn Bushey.

The questions have been slightly altered to be more relevant professionally.

If you would like to share some of your answers, please leave a comment!

2. Social isolation doesn't have to mean emotional isolation

Victory Offices strives to add value to your 9 to 5, whether that’s through our designer offices, our well trained staff, and, of course, through the plethora of events

But of course, that all had to change, and we had to adapt.

In fact, we created a space digitally for human interaction by filling our event calendar with virtual events and webinars.

We want to support your need for community as well as your need to stay focused and motivated professionally.

3. There is a beginning, middle and end to every story

This too shall pass, will the future be different? Of course, but we will not be living in this Covid-19 silo forever, which is why we wanted to share three small but impactful reminders.

Remain consistentAs a crisis hits, our adrenaline spikes; we’re thrown into having to take quick action. However, it’s like a sugar high and the crash is inevitable.

Keep perspective It’s important to lead with the big picture in mind. Anticipate and plan for what could happen next week, next month, and next year.

Focus on your people Focusing on the daily metrics of your company will not be what brings you out of this, instead it will be those that make up your company.

Do you have any other questions or thoughts about how your business can survive a crisis? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen!

If you’re also looking for a flexible work place solution that will see you through Covid-19 and has the capacity to grow with you beyond, please get in touch!

THE ART OF FOCUS | WORKING FROM HOME

As everyone all over the world continues to self-isolate, lets talk focus, and specifically how you can do this at home. The likelihood is that you’re now surrounded by more distractions than ever, perhaps it’s your family, the laundry, the refrigerator, your cuticles, or the fact that you can’t remember the last time you watered the house plants.

Losing focus can take seconds, however gaining it back takes a lot longer than you might think.

So, how can we action exceptional focus at home? Watch the full video below:

For more informative videos like this, visit Victory TV

Gloria Mark, a professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of California, has proven that it takes 23 minutes and 15 seconds just to re-focus after losing it.

Who knew that quick scroll of your Instagram feed could carry such dire consequences to your productivity?

So here are a few tips on how you can execute exceptional focus at home…

PROBLEM NUMBER 1: The setup – separate your personal from your professional

Lastly set some boundaries with yourself, your family or your room mates. Let them know well in advance your working hours, and your hours for socializing.

Next, dress the part. Even though you’re at home it can be beneficial to get ready for work in the same way you would if you were going into the office.

Set up a dedicated home office with all the things you require to work efficiently.

PROBLEM NUMBER 2: Indecisiveness

Your quality of focus is more about what you DON’T do as opposed to what you do do? Saying a big fat decisive YES to saying NO will allow you the freedom to focus on what really matters. In fact, Warren Buffet has a wonderful method in determining exactly what to say NO to so you’re able to say yes to what’s most important.

THE WARREN BUFFET 2 LIST METHOD:

So simple and yet so powerful. This method is wonderful in helping you determine what deserves your focus and what doesn’t in your career. It’s also a method you can use to determine bigger life goals as well as determine what needs your attention in any given week, a habit that could easily be adopted on a Sunday evening or Monday morning.

So, first things first, take out your pen and paper and write down your top 25 goals, once again either for career, life or for the next working week.

Once you’ve written down your 25 goals circle your top five, the most important goals you really want to accomplish.

Now you have two lists, your Top 5 list of the most important goals, and a second list of 20 other goals. An A list and a B.

Now comes the point where one must, as Faulkner once said, kill your darlings.

“Everything you didn’t circle just became your avoid-at-all-cost list. No matter what, these things get no attention from you until you’ve succeeded with your top 5.”

Do you have questions or thoughts about executing exceptional focus at home? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen, and where you can begin to find your community!

Every successful entrepreneur has experienced the same challenges that today’s startups are feeling right now. Here are 5 key tips from successful entrepreneurs that range from the importance of believing in yourself and reflecting on your accomplishments to finding the perfect mentor. These lessons can help anyone starting a business, keep reading to find out how it can help yours.

Reflect on your success like Sarah Bolitho, Assistant Australia – Victory Offices Sydney Member

I think one of the best things I did when setting up Assistant Sydney was choosing company values that were very well aligned to my own, and to what I wanted to achieve with the business. Every time we complete a big project, a senior assignment, event or initiative, we take time to reflect on that success.

Each and every time we have realised that in embarking on that journey, managing it the way we did and driving the outcome achieved – we did so in line with our company values. This moment of reflection has always been very rewarding both personally for myself and for my team. I have no doubt this has also contributed significantly to our company culture! When working with our clients, we constantly communicate just how key business culture and values are to a company’s overall success. The two in my opinion, are intrinsically aligned. Choosing values that were very simple and a natural reflection of how we wanted to work has certainly helped us live up to them from the start, without necessarily having a daily consciousness of doing so!

Believe in yourself and Listen to your clients Like David Harlock from Harlock Consulting – Victory Offices Melbourne Member

Believe in yourself and your abilities, and use these to provide the best possible services to your clients. Really listen to your clients and find out what they need. It’s very old school but I never go anywhere without a pen and paper and I write literally everything down rather than rely on my memory. I therefore never forget to call anyone back or fail to do what they ask of me. This habit has served me well both in previous management roles and now in my own business. Being reliable, responsive and pro-active – all basic things but so important in gaining trust and being an easy person for clients to come back to for their next project.

Approximately 70% of my work is repeat business from loyal clients and whilst I like to think this is due to my valuable technical knowledge it can’t be discounted how important it is to be interested in your clients, deliver a responsive service and therefore give them good reason to keep you front of mind for their next project. I’ve never been great at marketing and networking and so I rely on my project delivery and resulting referrals as my key form of marketing. All businesses and people within them are of course different but in a sentence, I would say that a piece of advice for any business is: “Give your clients a really good reason to come back again”.

Focus on Your Goals and Build Relationships Like Aaron Kidd from Zephyr Capital – Victory Offices Perth Member and Sam Kazi From SK Recuritment – Victory Offices Melbourne Member Focus

Do what you enjoy, are best at and have the most leverage from. Ignore any noise. Set a clear vision and work to achieve it with good people.

Building relationships is the best thing you can do for your business, it’s the relationships that get you the business and less of the product or service you are offering. There are no such things as rules when it comes to business development.

Good Health and Early Planning Leads to Success Like Ryan Donohue from Digital Remedy – Victory Offices Brisbane Member

I have two pieces of advice for business owners. Firstly, don’t wait until the morning to prepare for a successful day. Start the night before with achievable and realistic goals. This allows you to wake up relaxed and stress-free because you have already designed the blueprint for a productive day. Secondly, burnout is a real risk if you’re not mindful of your health. Running a business 35 takes energy, passion and motivation and good health is the foundation on which these traits are based. Taking the time to look after yourself now could save you weeks or months of time later down the track.

Discover the Power of an Experienced Mentor Like Ryan Donohue Digital Remedy– Victory Offices Brisbane Member

In start-ups and small businesses, you must move fast, often with limited knowledge or information to make the right decisions. Having someone who has been there before and has experience in the areas that you don’t, can really help you. A mentor can really help guide you through the important decisions and can help you to prioritise what is important. There are also plenty of things that as a small business you can’t do that a large business can. Don’t get caught up in those things. Work out what you can do that large businesses can’t, and hone those as strengths. Usually, it’ll focus around things like customer experience, personalisation and agility.
