The Problem With Positive Thinking And What To Do Instead

How often have you had a bad day and been told to think positively?

Often this piece of unwelcome advice only leads to more anxiety when these ‘positive thoughts’ aren’t deeply believed, confirmed, or backed up by your own experience.

Why? Because positive thinking operates at the surface level of conscious thinking and does nothing to contend with the subconscious mind where limiting beliefs actually live.

So what can we do instead?

1. SAY THIS:

We’ve been honored to host Chris Helder and personally live by his creed of Useful Belief in place of vague positivity.

Watch the video below for examples of what you can say instead:

2. Focus on progress not perfection

This simple mindset shift is proven to improve mood, encourage learning, and fosters independence and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Making and admitting to mistakes is a necessary part of learning, of growing, and of being human.

3. Take responsibility and be accountable for your actions

Instead of using the emotional band-aid of positive thinking look at the deeper root of your frustration and action steps to properly heal.

Think about it this way, if you’re responsible for your negative feelings, you also hold the solution to resolving them.

Do you have any other questions or thoughts about what you can do in place of positive thinking? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen!

3 Ways Victory Offices Can Support You During A Crisis And Beyond

As our world navigates the difficult and uncharted waters of Covid-19 we want to discuss how Victory Offices can help support you and your business during this and any crisis.

Of course, it goes without saying, that Victory Offices have:

  • Increased sanitization across all locations
  • Offer flexible packages and your first two weeks free on any service
  • We have postponed all in person events and replaced them with weekly virtual events.
  • We have reduced staffing whilst ensuring job security for our amazing Victory family, and continue to monitor this pandemic as it evolves.

But we’re also looking beyond, we are not only here to ensure your business survives but is ready to thrive.

Whilst we can’t tell you what the future holds, we can help you future proof your business.

1. Where do we begin?

Grab a notepad and pen and watch the below video for The CHOICES Map; a series of questions that will help you navigate massive change and gain clarity in your life and business.

The CHOICES Map is a series of questions developed by authors and executive coaches Gail McDonald and Marilyn Bushey.

The questions have been slightly altered to be more relevant professionally.

If you would like to share some of your answers, please leave a comment!

2. Social isolation doesn't have to mean emotional isolation

Victory Offices strives to add value to your 9 to 5, whether that’s through our designer offices, our well trained staff, and, of course, through the plethora of events

But of course, that all had to change, and we had to adapt.

In fact, we created a space digitally for human interaction by filling our event calendar with virtual events and webinars.

We want to support your need for community as well as your need to stay focused and motivated professionally.

3. There is a beginning, middle and end to every story

This too shall pass, will the future be different? Of course, but we will not be living in this Covid-19 silo forever, which is why we wanted to share three small but impactful reminders.

Remain consistentAs a crisis hits, our adrenaline spikes; we’re thrown into having to take quick action. However, it’s like a sugar high and the crash is inevitable.

Keep perspective It’s important to lead with the big picture in mind. Anticipate and plan for what could happen next week, next month, and next year.

Focus on your people Focusing on the daily metrics of your company will not be what brings you out of this, instead it will be those that make up your company.

Do you have any other questions or thoughts about how your business can survive a crisis? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen!

If you’re also looking for a flexible work place solution that will see you through Covid-19 and has the capacity to grow with you beyond, please get in touch!

THE ART OF FOCUS | WORKING FROM HOME

As everyone all over the world continues to self-isolate, lets talk focus, and specifically how you can do this at home. The likelihood is that you’re now surrounded by more distractions than ever, perhaps it’s your family, the laundry, the refrigerator, your cuticles, or the fact that you can’t remember the last time you watered the house plants.

Losing focus can take seconds, however gaining it back takes a lot longer than you might think.

So, how can we action exceptional focus at home? Watch the full video below:

For more informative videos like this, visit Victory TV

Gloria Mark, a professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of California, has proven that it takes 23 minutes and 15 seconds just to re-focus after losing it.

Who knew that quick scroll of your Instagram feed could carry such dire consequences to your productivity?

So here are a few tips on how you can execute exceptional focus at home…

PROBLEM NUMBER 1: The setup – separate your personal from your professional

Lastly set some boundaries with yourself, your family or your room mates. Let them know well in advance your working hours, and your hours for socializing.

Next, dress the part. Even though you’re at home it can be beneficial to get ready for work in the same way you would if you were going into the office.

Set up a dedicated home office with all the things you require to work efficiently.

PROBLEM NUMBER 2: Indecisiveness

Your quality of focus is more about what you DON’T do as opposed to what you do do? Saying a big fat decisive YES to saying NO will allow you the freedom to focus on what really matters. In fact, Warren Buffet has a wonderful method in determining exactly what to say NO to so you’re able to say yes to what’s most important.

THE WARREN BUFFET 2 LIST METHOD:

So simple and yet so powerful. This method is wonderful in helping you determine what deserves your focus and what doesn’t in your career. It’s also a method you can use to determine bigger life goals as well as determine what needs your attention in any given week, a habit that could easily be adopted on a Sunday evening or Monday morning.

So, first things first, take out your pen and paper and write down your top 25 goals, once again either for career, life or for the next working week.

Once you’ve written down your 25 goals circle your top five, the most important goals you really want to accomplish.

Now you have two lists, your Top 5 list of the most important goals, and a second list of 20 other goals. An A list and a B.

Now comes the point where one must, as Faulkner once said, kill your darlings.

“Everything you didn’t circle just became your avoid-at-all-cost list. No matter what, these things get no attention from you until you’ve succeeded with your top 5.”

Do you have questions or thoughts about executing exceptional focus at home? Include them in the comments below, that’s where the most important conversations happen, and where you can begin to find your community!

A 3-minute crash course on your initial public offering!

Taking a company public is not a simple process, in fact, it’s expensive, time-consuming, and invasive.

In this week’s episode of Victory TV Cate covers three issues that companies often experience during the IPO process and how YOU can avoid or prepare for them?

See the full video below or on our YouTube Channel Victory TV, otherwise, keep reading the truncated version below.

Victory TV - Vlog

1. Make sure you have an IPO dream team

Appointing an experienced team of advisers well before you begin the journey of ringing that bell is essential to the success of an IPO.

So, who should be on your team?

A BROKER

What they do:

  • The lead broker is normally the main underwriter of the offer.
  • They administer the activity surrounding the bid like assisting in preparing the offer document or prospectus.
  • They provide advice around investor materials, the type of investors to target, organise the investor roadshows, and dealing with the allocation and distribution of shares.
  • This is a key expense and will cost a company approximately 4-5% of the total funds raised.

LAW FIRM

What they do:

  • Your lawyers will be responsible for drafting the necessary documentation.
  • They will run the due diligence process, this is the invasive part and you’ll want to hire lawyers that you trust.

ACCOUNTING AND AUDIT FIRM

What they do:

  • The auditor will assist in providing required audited financial statement information for inclusion in your offer document or prospectus.
  • The accounting firm will provide a sign-off on any forecast financial information that is required in your offer document or prospectus

2. Timing is everything

It’s no secret that the IPO process is arduous and time-consuming – those who will not only be organising and attending roadshows, attending due diligence meetings, preparing all relevant materials, and meeting with investors, will also be contending with their normal workload.

It’s recommended that you give yourself a minimum of 6 months before ringing that bell!

3. That loss of control after listing – the impact of public versus private

There are a couple of things to consider when switching from private to public

  1. You will no longer operate with a sole vision and will now answer to majority shareholders, investors, and new independent board directors. This switch usually requiring a massive cultural shift and places different pressures on the founder or founders.
  2. The company must report on its operations and finances, these reporting requirements can be very time consuming, especially for the CFO.

Today we’re talking about sales, that dirty word we hate to use but desperately need to sustain and grow a successful business.

But, what if instead of viewing sales as something that feels forced or false, we saw it as a chance to connect? Because ultimately your audience isn’t purchasing your product or service, they’re purchasing your story!

This is why today I’m talking to Ingrid Maynard, The Sales Doctor, about How To Sell A Story Not A Product.

Ingrid shares incredible insight into sales, as well as tactics you can implement into your business immediately. She discusses the power of storytelling and how to establish and maintain trust, in order to make that sale and a life-long relationship.

See the full interview below or on our YouTube Channel Victory TV, otherwise, keep reading the shortened version of our discussion for her expert advice.

Do you have any tips on how to find the audience you want to sell to?

Firstly be open to your audience finding you, and what I mean by that is not that you should sit back and do nothing, what I mean is that your clients will tell you who they are.

Next, make sure you’re having conversations about the problem that your solution or product solves, or what that can enable a business to do more of.

Then look at your network and find those people that can refer you to potential clients, having that reference creates immediate credibility and trust. Find your place and become the centre of that eco-system.

From there? Have an appetite for the work and plenty of patience.

How do you establish trust with a customer?

It starts with connecting with people. A mistake I’ve seen salespeople make is going in to get something rather than going in to understand what the customer needs and being open to the fact that they might not be the best provider.

You need to have an abundance mentality when you’re in sales, understanding that not every customer is right for you and you’re not right for every customer.

How do you formulate a story around your product or service?

The more personal and relatable the story is, the better.

You might have one story, that’s your story, but the way you tell that story and the details that you focus on might vary depending on who you’re in front of.

Make sure you take time to understand your story within a hero’s journey format; people like to hear about the struggle, but they also like to hear about the triumph. If you can formulate your story within that structure it will absolutely resonate, and the customer will want to be a part of your next chapter.

Don’t know what the hero’s journey is? Check it out HERE and use this as a guide to tell YOUR story!

Please leave your questions, comments or thoughts about how to master sales in the comments below. Otherwise, get in touch with Ingrid, and invest in becoming an expert in sales!
